Brady, Larry

The Late Larry Brady There was genuine sadness in Kilmacanogue when one of the village's true gentlemen sadly lost his brave battle against cancer. Larry (Laurence) Brady contributed so much to the community over his life. Indeed he said to Fr. Owens a few days before he died 'sure I have had a good innings, Father.' He was a fantastic GAA player and coach and as Fr Ben Mulligan stated, both Larry and the late Jack Sutton were responsible for teaching him and many others, the great skills of the game. He was kilmacanogue GAA Club many great years of service both as a player and committee member. Something that many might never be aware of, he was also a great soccer man and was elected Chairman of the newly formed North County Soccer Club in 1968. In the 70's, Larry turned his talents to table tennis and ran the Kilmacanogue TT Club for many years with the late Ollie Donnolly. Many people associated with the various table tennis clubs over the years were at his removal including his good friend Joe Finnigan, President of the Bray and District Table Tennis Association, to pay their respects to legend of the game. I was a member of this club, as were many others, and I can recall how proud Larry was of his club and he brought us to many venues, including international matches in Dublin, where Larry was always a popular figure known by all. Fr Owen recalled what a great parishioner and Christian he was and although he knew his illness was getting the better of him, that good humour was there until the very end. Even on a recent trip to Lourdes, it was recalled how everyone took to him so easily and helped him on the pilgrimage. There is no doubt that the Quill Road will also be a far lonelier place without meeting Larry and his little dog walking along. Deepest sympathy to Bridie, Vinny and Sean and all the extended Brady family. Farewell Larry, you will be greatly missed around the community by all. May his soul Rest in Peace.
