July 24, 2003
The Late Jackie Doran Jackie Doran Ballinamona, Avoca, who died on July 14 at the age of 80 years, spent all his life in Avoca. He worked for many years in Avoca Mines and then for the forestry commission. Jackie had a great love of gaelic games and was a great supporter of Wexford, rarely missing a match in Croke Park. He was also a supporter of camogie, and his daughter Bernie played with distinction for both Avoca and Wicklow county teams. Jackie Doran was a true Irish gentleman, a free spirited man, clever, witty and intelligent. He enjoyed the company of others and loved the friendly chat over a welcoming pint. His great love and zest for life is something that will be cherished and remembered by his acquaintances for ever. Jackie also enjoyed a flutter on the horses and the game of cards. A great family man, he met and then married his wife Maura Byrne from Camolin in 1948, and they spent 55 happy years together. Mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends in Ireland, England, Canada and America, Jackie is especially missed by his wife Maura; sons, Michael John, David, Kevin and Noel; daughters Mary and Christine ( England), Pauline (Canada), Carmel (England), Bernadette and Caroline; sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grand-children and great grandchildren. His remains were interred in Castlemacadam Cemetery on July 17 after Requiem Mass. Courtesy of the Wicklow People 24th July 2003
