Walker, Liam

April 22, 2005
The Late Liam Walker The death of Liam Walker, after a very short illness, shocked the gaels of Arklow and throughout the county. 'Blacky', as he was better known to his friends, was one of the greatest GAA workers to be found anywhere. He was best known to the general public in recent years as the general supervisor at Arklow or Aughrim on big match day but of course he was much more than that. He was no mean sportsman in his younger days and player Senior Hurling and Senior Football for Geraldines. He served as Chairman of the Co. Juvenile Board and was a selector on the only Wicklow team to win a Leinster Minor Football Championship in 1974. After he retired from the NET factory he worked almost full time for the GAA and was the supervisor on a number of FAS schemes. We extend out sympathy to his wife Annie; his sons; Charles, John, David and Kenneth and daughter Catherine. Pearses Park and the County Board offices was closed as a mark of respect while a minute silence was observed at all matches in the county. Courtesy of the Wicklow News 14th April 2005
