Arklow Geraldine Ballymoney's GAA club notes

September 12, 2016

AGBs busy week of championship games began on Wednesday evening as the AGB Minor Team travelled to Avondale, to play them.  The minors set the pace for the match from the beginning and quickly clocked up two goals and six points in the first half, heading into the break 2-06 to 0-02.  Their quick play, strength and determination continued on their return as they maintained control during the second half and pushed each other on to win and finish with a score AGB 4-11 to Avondale 1-06.  The Minor A football draw means AGB Minors will face Avondale or Eire Og in their semi final, dates to be confirmed.

AGBs Intermediate Men faced Dunlavin in the Quarter Finals of the Championship on Sunday morning in Aughrim.  As was expected both teams came eager to win and reach the semi finals.  A fast pace match ensued and AGBs determination showed.  Every ball was played hard and fast through the field, with plenty of energy from the AGB men leading to a half time score of 4 points to 3, in AGBs favour. The AGB men definitely had the edge and great scores from Philp Gleeson (4 points), Ross Hynes (1 point), Cormac O Shea (1 point), Cathal Kelleher (1 point), JP Hurley (1 point), saw the AGB men reach victory in a nail bitting finish of  0-08 to 0-07.  The semi final draws, held on Sunday evening, mean AGB will now face Kilmacanogue for a place in this years final.

AGBs U16 Boys faced An Tochar on Sunday evening in their Championship clash at Pearses Park.   A determined U16 AGB side played out a strong game of football, and were not to be messed with.  Some great scores from Sean Crowley 2-04, Liam Moore 2 goals, and Conor Breslin a goal, saw the AGB side finish in victory.  Final score was 5-10 to 1-09.

AGBs Senior Ladies set off to Roundwood on Saturday evening to face Tinahely in the Senior Ladies County Final. Huge work and dedication had resulted in the ladies getting this far, and all at AGB are immensely proud of their huge achievement to reach the County Final.  The AGB ladies did everything they could in their power to push through the match, but unfortunately Tinahely were a very strong team.  AGB battled hard and gave it their all, even when two ladies were sinbinned within minutes of each other.  Unfortunately after such a fast start it just wasn't  to be the ladies night, as the match finished with Tinahely crowned the winners, final score 3-21 to 3-05.  AGBs Senior panel still have plenty of youth on their side, that and their drive and determination will hopefully bring them back to Championship glory next year.

AGBs U14 Girls played Blessington in the Championship Semi Final on Saturday in Blessington.   In what was a very tough encounter the girls started well and took 1-01, but Blessington got going and scored 2-06 without reply with some fantastic football.  Some fine saves from the goals kept AGB in touch.  Second half saw Blessington take control with some fine passing and put AGB under pressure as they scored some cracking scores. AGB got into the game late on and got some scores but Blessington dominated.  AGB put in a good second half performace but unfortunately it wasn't their day. Final score was Blessington 6-09 AGB 2-02 .
