Juvenile Notes:
Mini All Ireland Final Day
Over 140 kids took part in the Mini All Ireland league which was run during the week. The weather was fabulous and a brilliant time was had by all. U8 Shield Final - Jimmy Mulhall's Galway took on Kim Connor's Tyrone - Winner Galway. All Ireland Final - Michelle Richardson's Dubs battled it out with Trevor Murphy's Meath team - Winner Meath. U12 Shield - Maura Reid's Kerry took on Molly Cullen's Donegal - Winner Kerry. All Ireland Final - Pat Brennan's Wicklow took on Steven Bohans Dublin. Winner Dublin. Well done to all who organised, coached, mentored, refereed, cooked, baked, made tea, cleaned up and did anything no matter how small which contributed to the success of the Mini All Ireland. Thanks a million to Kevin Gilmore who kindly sponsored the medals and trophies. Much appreciated.
U8 - This week was all about the mini All-Ireland for the U8 boys and girls. All the games were keenly contested with great skills on display. The U8's would like to thank Jess Brennan for organising such a fantastic tournament which brought everyone in the club together. Next Tues eve will be our last mid-week training but Sat training will continue until end of October.
NKL U8: We played Naas on Sat afternoon and shaded it in a tight match. This was a fantastic result for us as Naas are probably the strongest club in the league.
NKL U9 - Our U9's played at home v Clane with short numbers on Sat 19 Sep. Blessington came out of the blocks with all cylinders firing to give us a good lead by the end of the first quarter. We played by the rules in the 2nd quarter kicking with the opposite foot and only noticed towards the end that Clane were not hence catching up and putting us behind by a few scores. Clane kicked with their opposite feet in the third and let us catch up. A fantastic game in great spirits was played and it was down to the wire for the last. End to end football was played and all gave 100% till the end which kept us ahead by a few scores at the final whistle. A hugh performance by David Gilmore and Ben Carroll Daniels on the day.
U10 - Well done to all U10's who participated in the mini all Irelands.
NKL U10 - On Sat 26 Sep the U10's played Eadestown and narrowly lost by one score. Fantastic performances from the kids. It was decided to operate a silent sideline for the game and whilst some of us found it hard not to issue instructions the kids took on the responsibility for calling out instructions to each other, marking loose players, maintaining position etc. And the ref never had it easier. It serves to remind us they are kids whose primary interest in sport and in life in general is to have fun!!! Well done to all the kids on the day. And a big thank you to Darina Allen Behan and Co for some of the nicest rice krispie buns ever to grace the grounds. :-)
U12 - Our U12's took part in the U12 football Mini Festival which was held in Ballinakill last Sat 19 Sep. Unfortunately, they were beaten by St Pat's.
NKL U12 - Congrats to the U12 NKL squad who pulled off a minor miracle by beating Carragh to qualify for the U12 Cup final in 2 weeks. An excellent goal in the last few minutes by Luke O'Brien sealed a 1 point victory. Despite playing second fiddle for much of the game the full squad never gave up an put in a great finish to pip the hosts by 1 point.
Hurling:
NKL U11 - Next up is U11 game v Naas on Tues at 7pm on the Astro.
U12 - Congrats the Blessington players who were a major part in the Western Gaels county final win in the U12 Hurling Mini Festival in Ballinakill on Sat 26 Sep. The lads beat a very good Bray outfit by two points. There were fantastic performances by Conor Gilligan, Liam Phibbs, Rory Cullen and Austin Brennan in defence with Marc Keogh, Conor Richardson, Adam Williamson, Cillian O Connell and Patrick Doherty doing particularly well in the forwards. Our two U10's Brian Richardson and Finn Behan also did the club proud.
U14 - Well done to C.Murphy, D.Phibbs, O.Brogan, J.Keogh and K.Quinn who went down fighting against O'Tooles in U14 Hurling A Championship final in Arklow on Sun 27 Sep. The Div 4 Féile All Ireland champs were 3 points up at half time but pulled away in the 2nd half to win 6-10 to 1-10. Special mention to C.Murphy who got 8 points at full forward while double marked for the entire 2nd half. An Iartháir Abú.
