Magee to remain at Garden helm

Wicklow clubs have voted in favour to keep Johnny Magee as manager for the 2016 campaign.

The former Dublin footballer saw his side push Meath all the way in the Leinster SFC, but their league form was very mixed, something that Magee is keen to work on.

Addressing the Wicklow delegates at last Monday's County Board meeting, Magee laid out his plans for the 2016 campaign, which included promotion in the league.

"Look, I'll be honest with you, there's a number of players I rang and there were some players who didn't turn up at the start and I'm not going to name names. That's where I would encourage the clubs, if you have a player that you think is at the level then encourage them to come along," Magee stated through the Wicklow People.

He added: "At the end of the day, I'm here to do the best job possible. Those guys are putting their bodies and their time on the line. The aim is to try and get out of Division 4 but, as you can see, there were only two lads fit enough in November. By May, we only had seven lads to compete for 70 minutes at that stage.

"That's how long it took to get five lads to that level. That's the way the game has gone. All going well, I'll be bringing the lads not involved in championship back in next Wednesday night to have them assessed again."
