Senior Notes

Seniors - Our Seniors face Eire Og in the quarter final of the Renault Senior Football Championship in Aughrim next Sunday 30 August at 11.30am. Please support our Senior team. Fingers crossed that we will progress to the Semis.

Intermediates - The Intermediate match on Sun 23 Aug at home to Annacurra was called off.

Junior B - Our lads were out in Valleymount on Tues 18 v Dunlavin. Dunlavin lost as much possession, however, Blessington scored the goals as Dunlavin missed several good first half chances. Half time Dunlavin 1-6 to Blessington 4-7. Overall, Dunlavin kicked 13 wides to the Blues 8 over the hour. It was old and young for the Blues and >40's with Fergus Daly partnered in midfield by 17 year old Danielus Sarkauskas. Full time Dunlavin 1-10 to Blessington 5-9. Scorers for Blessington: Danielus Sarkauskas (2-0), Thomas Fisher (2-0), Conor Ryan (0-4), David Brennan (1-0), Daragh Richardson, Jordan Lynch, Ian Richardson, Stephen Willowby, Jimmy Mulhall (0-1 each). The lads now qualify for the quarter final and also top their group. Well done to all. Next up in the JBFC Blessington face Kiltegan in Donard at 7pm next Fri 28 Aug.

Minors - Our Minors kick off their championship at home v Tinahely on Wed 26 at 7.15pm.

Ladies Notes

Junior Ladies - Busy Week for the Junior Ladies.  On Mon 17 Aug 12 girls travelled down to Laragh to play a strong AGB team with 25 players in Laragh. Blessington were on top for the first 15 to 20 mins and were 2 points down at half time. AGB were able to roll on fresh players throughout the game and won on a big score line of 6-11to 0-7.  On Wed 20 Aug the Girls played a very competitive friendly match against a very strong Ballyboden team. Ballyboden  were well on top in the first half while Blessington played very well in the second half. On Sun 23 Aug the ladies played a league match V Barrndarrig. Good to have 16 players for the first time in a long time and it made a big difference. A really good first half with the teams all square at 1-3 to Blessington and 0-6 Barndarrig.. Wiht a slight wind in the second half Blessington had the advantage and finished very strong to win 5-8 to 0-7 on a very wet mucky night. Pauline Conroy played her last match on Mon and we wish her all the best in New Zealand. A big welcome to Mia Lawlor who had her first game with us this week. Training as usual Wed night 8pm. Light training session on Sat morning at 11.30 am.

G4M&O - Training as usual on Wed at 6.45 pm . with a short meeting from 7:30pm to discuss plans for the year and upcoming blitzes. New members always welcome only requirement is to be over 18 and interested in exercise and fun. No previous football experience required. Just turn up on the night or call  Sinead 0862446510 or Kevin 0876123203 for info. If there are any outstanding registration fees please pay as soon as possible.

U16 - U16 girls play Eire Og at home on Tues 25 Aug at 7pm.

U14 - U14 girls play Newtown at home on Thurs 27 at 7pm.

U12  - U12 girls play away to Ballymore on Tues 25 Aug at 7pm.

U8  - The U8 girls took part in a blitz on Sat 22 Aug in Tinahely. They put in an excellent performance winning all 3 games v Tinahely, St Pat's and Baltinglass. 9 players attended: Abby Connors, Niamh Brennan, Ciara O'Neill, Robyn Brennan, Erin McMahon, Ella Richardson, Leah Richardson, Emma Carpenter and Orlaith Taylor. Well done girls.

Juvenile Notes:

NKL returns this week and the U8 football team play at home to Clane on Sat 29 at 2.30pm. Also at home at 3.30pm the U10's play St Kevins.

U8/U10 -  Football Go Games in Valleymount on Sat 29 August.

U12 - U12's play away to AGB on Mon 24 Aug at 7pm.

 

U14 - Our U14 team got off to a winning start in their first match of the U14 championship at home to Newtown on Wed 19 Aug. Terrific team performance by the lads. Blessington led 5-6 to 1-5 at half time. Final score 8-10 to 3-7. Scorers: Christopher Murphy (4-3), Jamie Hamilton (2-2), Eoin Kavanagh (1-2), Thomas Fisher (1-0), Kealan Sherratt (0-2), Kevin Quinn (0-1). Next up is away to St Pats on Wed 26th Aug.

 

U16 - Our U16's had a great game again Michael Dwyers at home on Mon 17 Aug. The final score was a well deserved draw for both teams 7-9 each. Next up is a home game to Tinahely (Round 10 of the league).

 

Hurling -

NKL hurling returns this weekend. Blessington U9 team will play away to Naas Blue at 11am on Sun 30 Aug and on the same day the U11 hurling team which will be a Western Gaels team will play away to Kilcock at 12 noon.

U14 hurling - Well done to the 5 Blesso chaps who helped beat Carnew in Round 1 of this years U14 Hurling Championship in a very wet Donard on Sun 23 Aug. Dwyers were 7 pts down at halftime when the stylish Christopher Murphy moved from full back to full forward where he scored 1-03. The dependable Kevin Quinn added 2-02 for Dwyers to win 6-06 to 4-04. David Phibbs was outstanding at cornerback, Oisin Brogan impressed at full back and the tough Jon Kehoe minded the other corner. Well done lads.

 

U14 County Hurling - Best of luck to Wicklow U14 hurlers who play in the All Ireland B Blitz in Ballinakill on Sat 29 Aug. Blessington will be represented by Christopher Murphy, Kevin Quinn and David Phibbs. The team is managed by Ciaran Murphy. Good luck to all.

 

U8/U10 Go Games - Hurling Go Games was held in Hollywood last Fri evening. Blessington had one U8 and one U10 team. Both teams played well bearing in mind they were just back after a break from training. Training starts back this Thurs 27 Aug 6.30 - 7.30pm.

Lotto: The Lotto jackpot of €12,200 on 11 Aug was not won. Numbers drawn were 3, 9,13, 16. Next draw 25 Aug in Bealins. Jackpot €12,400.
