Our Ladies won in the Championship V Newtown in Kilbride 06/08/15
Ideal playing conditions in Kilbride for this championship match. Kilbride Ladies started well and after a few minutes were first on the score sheet after a fine strike of the ball from the boot of Rionach Craul. The Kilbride forwards dominated the first 15 minutes of the game and after one or two wides started to settle into the game. Kilbride's midfield duo of Michelle Jones and Michelle Reneghan were confusing the opposition: maybe it's the fact that they are both named Michelle or maybe it's because they both run non-stop for 60 minutes, but whatever it was, they were solid in the centre, tracking back, linking up with the forwards and moving for quick kick outs from Keeper Orla Donohoe. Caitriona Mckeon was outstanding in centre half back and anything (which wasn't much) that got through the midfield was quickly cleaned up between her and the wing half backs Ciara and Tara Roche. Lauren McDonald and Jean Duffy were linking up well in the forwards and kept the score line ticking over. At half time Kilbride were on top and newly named captain Tara Roche and Vice-Captain Rionach Craul gave the girls a stern talking to.
The second half started well for Kilbride with some fabulous passages of play coming from Michelle and Caitriona Reneghan. Rebecca Bealin and Abaigh Craul were tireless in the corner forwards and showing for everything. Lauren McDonald was fighting hard in half forward. However Newtown weren't finished and decided to notch it up a gear in the second half. The pressure was on the 6 Kilbride backs, but no matter how hard Newtown tried to get in for a goal the Kilbride backs were unbeatable, Nikki Donohoe was throwing her body at everything and Hazel O Connor and Sarah Bealin were cutting out any menacing runs. Katherine Ward came on for Rebecca Bealin, Niamh Connolly came on for an injured Rionach Craul and Anna Creighton came on for Sarah Bealin, the 3 girls who came on slotted right into the positions. Kilbride Ladies fought to the bitter end and the final score was Kilbride 1-07 Newtown 0-06. Kilbride advance to the Junior A semi-final.
