Fergal Ogs club notes

July 27, 2015

Juvenile
Our U8's and U10's hurlers partook in the hurling blitz against Bray Emmets on Friday 17th, in which they played the host club, and Kilcoole and  Eire Óg. There were very good performance from Daniel Berkeley, Cian Byrne and Jack Allen. Danielle Doyle put in another great shift on defensive duty with the U8's. This blitz was followed by a football blitz on Friday 24th at Kilmacanogue. Fergal Ógs played Kilmac, Laragh and Newcastle. A special mention must be given to Adam Murray and Daniel Berkeley who played very well on the night.
Men's Hurling
Our men's hurlers travelled to Glenealy on Wednesday 22nd to take on one of Wicklow hurlings heavyweights. A strong performance and a 1-11 score wasn't enough to seal the victory over the Glenealy men. There were impressive displays from Mark Dempsey, Dan McGrane and from Dessie Whelan in goal, who was filling in for the injured Barry O'Brien.
The team have two remaining fixtures in the league against Avondale and Carnew.
Men's Football
While our men's hurlers were in Glenealy, our footballers were on home soil as they played Rathnew in the Schweppes Cup on Schools Road.
A strong start with Cormac Kelly making an early drive through the middle of the park, awoke the villagers, and resulted in an early goal for Rathnew down at the far end. Another Rathnew goal quickly followed which took the wind out of the Fergal Ógs sails. The Bray men put on their scoring boots and Gavin Harris registered his first score of the night with a well taken point. It was a case of one step forward and two steps back for the Bray side as each score was matched by two or three  Rathnew scores down the in the opposing half.
In the 2nd half an early Rathnew goal effectively put the tie to bed. Credit must be given to our own players, who although knowing that the game was all but dead and buried, continued to battle away, and refused to let Rathnew return to  the village without having earned the points the hard way. Aaron Kane registered another brilliant performance, while Cormac Kelly, Gavin Harris and Ronan Twohig also performed well on defensive and offensive duty.
The team will be playing An Tochar in the next round of the Schweppes Cup and they''ll be playing Coolkenno in the next round of the championship on August 1st @ Pearse Park.
Best of luck to the lads.
