Blessington GAA Notes

Our Junior B team had a great win over Newtown in the championship on Saturday last 2-11 to 0-11. The result now means that each team in the group all have 2 points each. Their next match will be against Dunlavin. The team was Robert Gilligan, Colin Miley, Christy Walsh, Stephen Byrne, Shane Fisher, Garreth Grogan, Jordan Lynch, Ian Richardson, Fergus Daly, Stephen Willoughby, Alan Ellis, Jimmy Mulhall, Conor Ryan, Thomas Fisher& Dara Richardson Subs Stephen Kitt, Kevin farrell & Jason Mc Carthy.

Our Intermediates play Dunlavin in a very important championship game against Dunlavin on Sunday next in Baltinglass at 7pm, please support the lads. Our Seniors play Hollywood in the championship on Saturday next at 5pm in Aughrim. A very important game and your support is needed, a win will see the lads claim a place in the Quarter Final. Our Minors enjoyed a great win in the first round of the Minor championship over Bray last Wednesday 2.16 to 1.6. The lads are at home this week against Baltinglass, every game is different so please come up and show home support. Blessington Junior Ladies had a Busy Week for the Girls Monday 6th Friendly V Eadstown and really close match with Eadstown getting a 7 point lead in the first half the girls dug in to win by a goal and a point Blessington 3-8 Eadstown 2-7.

Good turn out with 17 travelling to Eadstown the largest number is a while. Blessington Backs were solid throughout the game, the forwardline really upped the pressure in the 2nd half to put Eadstown under pressure and come away with the win. Friendly with Kilbride didn't go ahead and the first round match V Barrindarig set for Sunday 12th had to be postponed instead the girls played a challenge at short notice with V Valleymount. Valleymount came away with a win but it was a really positive performance with Blessington creating 26 shot's to Valleymounts 16. The girls had the majority of possession but the Valleymount keeper managed to save 5 goal bound shots and the post denied the  girls scores on another  3 occasions. Valley mount 3-7 Blessington 0-6. Wed August 22nd Away V Carnew 7:30pm Championship. GFM&O The ladies played in their first Blitz of the Year Sunday 12th in Raheens Naas. A good day and a for a good cause, the girls played fantastic, fittest, skills and team play have all come improved since the first blitz last year Blessoington 1-6 V St Kevins 2-7.

St Kevins are this years Kildare League winners so a really good result against and experienced team. Blessington 1-7 V Newery 0-3. Blessington were due to play Newery B team but at half time Newery changed the squad to the A squad Blessington 2-8 V Raheens 1-0. Next UP: Pereguine Blitz Sunday: 16th August:      All Ireland Blitz: Portmarnock 17th October Our Ladies play  Senior Championship on  Mon 27th away v Bray at 7.30pm, an important match for the girls so please travel and show your support.   Best of luck to all hurlers taking part in Cul Camp next week in Blessington. If you have attended the football camp you can attend this camp for just €35 (doesn't include gear ), great value. A busy week past for Blessington U10 hurlers. First up was Go Games in Bray Emmets on Friday night. 3 Games played with three wins recorded. Next up was the Morefield blitz on Saturday afternoon. Blessington won the u10 blitz recording 4 out 4 wins with great team performances in all games. Scores as follows Blessington 2-4  Morefield 0-2 Blessington 1-5 Rathangan 0-0 Blessington 3-6 Two Mile House 0-4 Blessington 0-7 Ross Glass 1-3. joint captains for the day Brian Richardson and Finn Bean received the cup for Blessington. The customary circuit of the town was held on return to Blessington. The Blessington team all deserve a mention for the big effort put in over the two days. This all the more impressive with half the team missing due to holidays and no subs available for both days.

Wicklow beat Derry , Meath 1 and drew with Meath 2. Team managed by Ciarán Murphy. Our Club lotto was not won last week numbers drawn were 5, 9,18,25 we had 13 matched 3 numbers receiving €25 each. Our next draw is Tuesday 28th July in Murphys with the Jackpot at €12,000. Thank you for your continued support.
