St Patricks GAA club notes

June 29, 2015

What a week for the club….. Our U14 boys and girls took part in the Féile, hosting teams from Offaly and Longford. Both teams managed to win a game on Friday putting them in a good position within their group. On Saturday morning they played their host teams and there were huge numbers at Dubbur to support St. Pat's, which added greatly to the occasion and atmosphere. The girls played first in what was an exciting and thrilling match and ended up coming out on top securing them into the Division 1 Cup quarter final. Unfortunately, for the boys the Longford team were too strong, but they still made it into their respective Shield quarter final. St. Pat's Boys played that evening, beating Mount Leinster meaning that they were into the Shield semi final where they would face Castletown. The boys played a great game but just ran out of steam in the end, but to make it to an All Ireland semi final is something to be proud of. That evening the girls managed to beat their rivals Arklow in their quarter final and then a strong Cavan side in the semi on Sunday morning, securing them a place in the final against Royal Gaels. The final was a tough game leaving the teams level at full time. The nerves were at an all time high but the girls kept their heads down and won by a point. Captain Sinead McGettigan was presented with the Cup and the girls were named Division 1 All Ireland Cup Champions, a great way to end the weekend. There was a great welcome awaiting the girls from all in Wicklow Town. They got a wonderful reception from all as they paraded through the town to their home at Dunbur. A great night of celebrations was had by all in the clubhouse. Congratulations to Brian McSorley, the management team and especially to all the girls. A big thank you to the brilliant Féile committee for organising a fantastic and successful weekend. Finally, congratulations to all the boys and girls who represented the club this week, everyone is extremely proud of your achievements.

Senior Ladies

On Wednesday evening the Senior Ladies had their first match of the championship. They played Baltinglass at home, which was always going to be a tough match. It was a brilliant game and the girls gave everything they had, but unfortunately just ran short losing on a score line of 3-09 to 2-09.

Senior Men

Well done to the St. Pat's players involved with the county on a really good performance against Armagh. The score did not reflect the closeness of the game. The players will now rejoin the club as they prepare for the championship game against Rathnew. We will keep you updated on the fixture time and date for this game.

Juvenile

The U8 hurlers were out training again on Tuesday evening up at St. Pat's NS. This week's Hurlers of the Week were U7 Ross O'Meara and U8 Sennan Shorthall.

St. Patrick's National School held a two-day blitz with over 120 kids from 4th, 5th & 6th class taking part. They were split into 9 different teams, Wicklow, Dublin, Mayo, Kerry, Cork, Donegal, Limerick, Galway and Tyrone. After two days of exciting football Donegal, captained by Fionn Luddy, were the eventual winners beating Paul Marah's Mayo in a very entertaining final watched by the rest of the school.
