The dreaded red card

A club game in Co Wicklow was abandoned last weekend after a mass brawl erupted with just minutes to go.

Referee Ciaran Fleming felt he had no choice but to abandon the Division 1A football league clash between Carnew Emmets and Eire Og Greystones.

The Wicklow People reports that it is alleged that a couple of skirmishes broke out during the second half, with the first seeing up to 20 players being involved.

Order was restored by Fleming, but another brawl began and the Baltinglass official felt he had no option but to abandon the match with just minutes to be played.

The Wicklow CCC are awaiting the referee's report before deciding on what course of action will be taken.

Incidentally, Eire Og are believed to be winning the match by 0-12 to 1-06 when the referee called a halt to proceedings.
