Our U15 squad travelled to Gorey to take on Wexford last Saturday. Wicklow had 29 players in attendance and the format of playing three 20 minute games suited our numbers perfectly. For the first 2 of these 20 minute periods the coaches pick what they hoped would be even teams with only the goalkeeper playing in both of these two 20 minutes periods. Wexford played with the wind in the first period and got off to a good start and kicked some early points. It took our lads a bit to settle, but drew level after about 10 minutes, with Wexford going on to finish stronger and lead by 4 points after the first 20 minutes. After changing all our outfield players for the second period Wicklow dominated possession while playing with the wind and went into a two point lead. Wexford then fought back and scored two goals to restore their 4 point lead after 40 minutes. Wicklow were now facing playing back into the wind and 4 points down, but this was when Wicklow played their best football and took the game to Wexford. After drawing level on 60 minutes, Wexford went on one last attack and scored the winning point with nearly the last kick of the game. The Wicklow coaches were very happy with this work out and have identified areas that the lads need to work on.

Last Saturday our u16 Footballers travelled to play Laois in a challenge. We had 27 players attending. We played 3 periods of 20 minutes. After the first half  whilst playing with the wind we were down 5points to 2.2.  Things improved immensely in the 2nd period against the wind where we led 2.6 to 1.6. . After the third period where we saw some excellent defending both teams could not be separated and the final score was 3.9 to 4.6..
