Wicklow manager Casey O'Brien has called for hurling referees to show some common sense.
O'Brien feels that the early dismissal of playmaker Leighton Glynn to a straight red card, issued by referee Fergal Horgan at Dr Cullen Park, was harsh and contributed greatly to his side's heavy defeat to Carlow.
"The referees have to start using a bit of common sense," he notes in The Wicklow People. "Leighton got hit around the head when he was running with the ball.
"He turned around and gave a little bit of a dart back with the butt of the hurl. He got a straight red but there were tackles going on out there from both teams after that - high tackles around the head, dirty lunges into chests, hard hitting - and lads were getting yellow cards.
"You have to use common sense. Okay, it was a little jab back but your man wasn't brought off to hospital or anything."
