The 2015 national football league commenced tonight, with four matches down for decision, including two mouth-watering Division One derbies.

Local pride was at stake at Omagh, where Tyrone entertained Monaghan, while emotions were also running high at Ballybofey as Donegal and Derry did battle in another fascinating all-Ulster clash.

Meanwhile, Fermanagh - who'd had an excellent month thus far - opened their Division Three campaign at home to Louth and Waterford - who've enjoyed an even better January! - entertained Wicklow in their Division Four opener.

Add in the Waterford Crystal Cup decider between the hurlers of Cork and Limerick at Mallow and we had all the ingredients for a tasty Saturday night of intercounty fare!
