Baltinglass Ladies Senior Football Team completed the double with a hard earned victory over Tinahely Ladies in the League Final played in Newtown. In probably what was the match of the year for supporters both teams gave a wonderful exhibition of football that was full of skill and excitement. The match opened with some wonderful scores from both sides but it was Tinahely Ladies who took control over the county champions with two well taken goals by Rachael Byrne and Jessica Byrne. Baltinglass now were facing into half time 7 points down but the girls from the West are not County Champions for no reason and rattled in 3 goals through Catherine Dempsey , Marie Kealy and Ann Marie Doran to leave Baltinglass 2 points up at the half time interval. The second half opened like the first half with Tinahely getting out of the blocks first with scores from Jackie Kinch and Loretta Gilbert restoring the lead for the Tinahley girls. But again the Baltinglass team responed with scores from Dempsey and Chloe Farrell to leave the game on a knife edge going into last few minutes.  Tinahely then took the lead with a well worked goal by Loretta Gilbert and lead the match by two points going into the final minutes of the game. Time was running out for Baltinglass but in the dying minutes Marie Kealy reduced the score to a point with a well taken free and Chloe Farrell scored a wonderful point from a tight angle to send the match into extra time. After sixty minutes of wonderful football both teams looked tired in extra time but it was the girls from the Baltinglass Club in the west that showed the most hunger and kicked five unanswered points to take a big lead into the dying minutes of the game. Tinahley never came up and in the end just came short in a wonderful game of football that finished Baltinglass 4-16 Tinahely 4-13. In a wonderful team display all over the pitch  Baltinglass were best served by Jackie Byrne, Hanna Dowling Catherine Dempsey , Ann Marie Doran, Ciara Hennessy and Marie Kealy while Tinahely  had some great displays by Jackie Kinch, Loretta Gilbert, Rachael Byrne and Jessica Byrne. Sarah Jane Winder accepted the league cup from County Chairman Dominic Leech after the final whistle to wonderful applause from both sets of supporters who made the long trip to Newtown. So the league trophy joins the championship in the Baltinglass Club for 2014 after a truly wonderful year for the club where they have remained unbeaten in Wicklow after some brilliant matches over the year.
