Well we are Senior Football Champions for 2014. Commiserations to a gallant St Pats team who left their shooting boots back in Wicklow. but the great Minor win will take the pain away somewhat. Great touch by James Stafford to let the retiring Tommy Gill lift 'Miley' with him. James must have made the shortest speech ever in Aughrim. It was a great team display again by Rathnew, with everyone who took to the field playing a big part. Peter Dignam in goal was a man mountain as he thwarted the Wicklow mens efforts time and again especially the penalty save. Peter hadnt got down that low since he spotted a Euro coin on Grafton street back in '06'. Leighton despite not 100% fit proved hes class by popping up all over the place.Merriman was very influential. Ross O'Brien was solid and collects hes 2nd Senior medal and yet still 21.Great to see young John Manley get the Man of the Match award for hes fine display. Rathnew were forced to replace two players due to black cards. But the strength of the Rathnew squad was there to see. With Johnny Byrne, Enan Gylnn and Mark Doyle having big games when they came on. In fact Mark won the day as he used all hes football guile and strength to squeeze the ball in from an awkward angle in injury time.Well done to all the players, well done to Manager Declan Byrne hes two selectors Alvin 'Mourinho' Mitchell and Nigel Manley. Backroom staff Jason O'Toole, Anto Doyle. Physio Clifford Murphy and Nipper Kinsella.Stephen Bruiser for health drinks and Vivienne and Yvonne for the food. Thanks to everyone who donated to the Grassy appeal. We just got Grassy home just in time for the final and he done an excellent job as waterboy.Big thanks to all our supporters both here at home and overseas. Thanks to all our sponsors especially Skoda Sinnott Autos Wicklow. Speedy recoveries to Nicky Mernagh 'broken collar bone' and John Manley 'broken rib'.

Irish TV (Sky 191) was there to do capture the County Final. Thanks to Paul Harney . It should be shown next Sunday evening. More details on our Facebook page.

Our JunB's must do it all over again after their draw with Bray in the final last Saturday. Important to keep the eye on the ball lads for the next day. Play football forget about talking on the field.

Thanks again to everyone who helped make the Village look so well for the football finals. To our hard working Vivienne O'Neill gettin all the young supporters to Aughrim and for kitting them out with bobbins n wrist bands and neck bands. Thank to Mr Anto Doyle who has been as busy as a beaver selling Club merchandise, not an easy job as some people will always leave it too late. But its great to see all our supporters young and old turning out in style.
