AGB 6-15
St. Nick's 4-5

In the splendid surroundings of the Wicklow GAA Centre of Excellence all the spectators were served up a feast of excellent football from both AGB and St. Nick's in the U16 League final. The AGB U16's started really well with two points from Cathal Kelleher following good interplay with Ross McBride and Gary Fennell. It was then Ciaran O'Shea, who opened up his shoulders and attacked the St. Nicks backs at speed to slot over a splendid point. Cathal Kelleher then broke through the Nicks defence to slot the ball into the net. Ciaran O'Shea added another point before Calem Devereux broke through to score a goal. St. Nicks then took control and the AGB defence was put to the test. St. Nicks picked off a goal and a point and were matching AGB throughout the field before Jack Darcy intercepted a ball in defence and sprinted forward into the St. Nicks half holding off numerous tackles and then broke inside to slot over an excellent point. From the kickout Ciaran O'Shea won the ball and added to his tally with another point. With minutes to go to half time St. Nicks beat the Arklow defence once again and hit the back of the Arklow net. The AGB boys responded in their usual fashion and it was Calem Devereux who came up trumps with a well taken goal. St. Nicks added another point before the halftime time whistle was blown. Half time score of 3-6 to 2-2 in favour of AGB.

It was captain of AGB, Cal Kelly, who started the scoring in the second half with a point. Further points from Cormac O'Shea, Jack Darcy, Gavin Bentley and Calem Devereux were added before Calem added his second goal. It was Peter Hempenstall, who having done an excellent job at halfback, had moved into the forwards where he split the defence and calmly slotted the ball to St. Nicks net. While St Nicks fought hard and added 2 goals and 3 points in the second half it was the AGB boys who finished best. With Cathal Kelleher now operating from centre half back he still added a further point to his tally, while Calem added a further goal. Points from O'Shea and Sean Mulligan finished off the scoring for Arklow.

The AGB team won with a solid defence, a hard working midfield and a free flowing forward line. The scoreline doesn't do St. Nick's justice as they gave a fine performance also and battled hard. Well done to all the boys.
