Blessington club notes

Well done to our Minors who beat St Nicholas in Dunlavin on Wed last as they kicked off their Championship campaign with a win. The start was a bit sluggish but we soon found our feet and the fight was on. The second half brought some great battles and scores, scorers Jordan Nolan 2-2, Patrick O Connor 0-7, Mikey O Connor 0-3, Conor Ryan 1-0, Hughie Walsh, Martin Shannon & Jack Cotter 0-1 each. The lads take on Bray next at home on Wed night next at 7.30pm. Our Jun C team received a walkover from Hollywood in the West Cup on Thursday last. Our Seniors travelled to Rathnew on Thurs last, the teams were level at half time. The lads battled very hard and went ahead, but couple things went against us and Rathnew got level and in injury time got the winner. The lads will play St Pats in the Senior Championship on Sat 26th July in Aughrim. Juvenile Fixtures for the week are Mon 14th U12 Hurling Tinahely v Western Gaels, U16 Avondale v Blesso @ 19:40, Tues 15th U8s Play and Stay in Croke Park, Wed 16th Minor Champ v Bray at home at 7.30pm Fri 18th Hurling Go Games U8/U10 in Bray - Eire Og, Kilcoole, Enniskerry, Blesso and Kilmac. Adult Fixtures Mon 14th July Coolkenno Cup Final in Coolkenno Jun C v Tullow, Fri 18th at Baltinglass 7.30pm Jun C Champ Rd 2 Blesso v Coolkenno, Tues 22nd Div 2 League Blesso v Aughrim in Aughrim Club Grounds at 7.45pm. Well done to all our young members who attended Cul Camps during the week, thanks to Paul Garrigan all the coaches who kept all the kids busy for the week, particularly our own coaches Steven Bohan & Eoin Howlin. Thanks also to Breda Brophy who supplied the food all week for the coaches, and Mick Curran who had the grounds well prepared. U8 notes. We fielded 3 teams on Saturday at Go Games in Kilbride and came out on top in most matches despite missing some players due to holidays. Reminder for all those travelling to Croke Park that the bus is leaving from outside the secondary school at 7:30am on Tuesday. Our matches start at 10am. We would like to thank McGreal pharmacy for sponsoring half time drinks and fruit and Brian Carroll for sponsoring McDonalds for kids on way home. Our under 10 footballers( consisting of mainly under 9s) played two matches in Kilbride Saturday 12th. Teams taking part were Blessington,Kilbride/Lacken and Dunlavin. Our first match out was to Dunlavin, with scores coming from Finn Jordon and Brian Richardson with great balls feed in from our midfielders Finn Behan and Conor Richardson,with our mighty backs holding out in defence were Aaron Gilligan James Dooley and Adam Smyth with fantastic saves coming from our goalie Tristan Will Whelan. Our second match was to Lacken/Kilbride, our goalies were Jack Mcmanus and Finn Behan scores coming in this match from Finn Jordan, James Dooley, Conor Richardson, Brian Richardson, Sean Ellis, Tristan Will Whelan and Adam Smyth. Our players of the day Were James Dooley and Adan Smyth.Well done to all our boys a great morning had by all. Great work going on in the pitch new lights up on the lower pitch which will make things easier during the winter months, and also the piece beside the dressing rooms is almost complete with drainage, well done to the Executive Committee for all the new developments. Our Club Lotto takes place on Tues night in Murphys with Jackpot at €6,800 please return your tickets before 10.30pm, you can also buy tickets online at www.blessingtongaa.ie.
