Arklow Geraldine Ballymoney's GAA Club Notes

April 14, 2014
Games Played:

U10 Boys: Well done to U10s boys in their first blitz of the year in Carnew. The lads hit the ground running with some outstanding performances all round. They played Coolkenno, Kiltegan and Carnew. Dominated all of their games and displayed some fantastic scoring, passing, tackling and support play. Overall all the players got to play in every position throughout the day and are all looking forward to their next match. Their commitment to training is paying off. Thanks to Carnew for yet another well organised blitz.

Girls Under 12 Division 1 were out against Bray on Wednesday 9th. Girls started off very nervous and with Bray scoring 3 unanswered points before AGB took over the first half and scored 3-2 before a late point from Bray. Second half was a much better start with the girls scoring a further 2-1 before a late goal from Bray. It was a great team performance by the girls but a massive commanding defensive performance by Georgia Earls. The girls are showing much improvement thanks also to our new coach Jessie Mc Elheron who has brought a new aspect to the team.

Girls Under 12 Division 3 were at home to An Tochar on Thursday 10th with 4 girls debuting. This is a team made up mostly of u-10s. This was a battling performance by the girls especially in the second half but An Tochar had started brightly and got some quick scores building too large a gap for AGB to chase. The first half ended 1-7 to no score but the girls kept An Tochar at bay for most of the second half only allowing them to score another point while scoring a goal from a free themselves.

U14 Boys played their first match of the league at home against An Tochar on Wednesday evening. The lads hard work at training shined through as they took an early lead with 2 goals. AGB held their lead winning the match with a final score of 2-6 points to 6 points. The coaches and supporters were delighted with the teams performance.

U-14 Girls at County Feile

Girls U14 Division 1 team were at the Country Feile over the weekend. Saturday was dramatic, as the girls made it through to the semi-finals on the Sunday. In their first match Bray capitalised on a completely out of sorts AGB to race into a good lead. The girls did rally and fought back but couldn't overcome the deficit and lost by a single point. Up next was Baltinglass and you could still see the nerves in our play but two quick scores settled the girls down and they went on to record a victory . Confidence was visibly returning and it was all to play for. The last group game was against Tinahely. Victory was required to be in with a chance of qualification. From the first whistle AGB took control and dominated both halves to record a second win of the day. The drama didn't stop there though as AGB, Tinahely and Bray all recorded two wins each meaning the rule book had to be consulted. In the end it was down to score difference and it was AGB who topped the group with Bray also progressing to the semis.
Day 2 started with a semi final against Blessington and the girls were flying and deserved to win to progress to the final against St. Pats. Playing with the wind the girls started the better and led the way at half time but St. Pats dug in and ran out winners by just 2 points in a great game. The girls should hold their heads high after a great weekend. Onwards from here girls, we're very proud of you.
