HL2B final: Garden spring a surprise

Mikey Lee was on target with 10 points as Wicklow scored a surprise HL 2B final victory over Down at Pairc Tailteann.

Right corner-forward Lee sent over seven points in the first half and the Garden County led by 0-12 to 0-9 at the change of ends.

Substitute Scott Nicholson netted the game's only goal for the Christy Ring Cup champions in the second half but Wicklow responded with points from Andy O'Brien, Wayne O'Gorman and Lee and held on for a deserved victory.

Down midfielder Fintan Conway was shown a red card in the second half and Wicklow also finished with 14 men after Christy Moorehouse was dismissed just before the final whistle.
