It was with very sad news that we heard of the passing of Tom Mangan on Tuesday, 11th December, 2012 in the Blackrock Hospice. Tom played a huge part in Bray Emmets over the years.
His parents, Michael and Mary, had a grocery shop on Bray Main Street and his father was very involved in the GAA, playing many roles in our club before finally becoming club President.

As a result, Tom was actively involved as a player from a young age and was on the 1966 Minor hurling team that was defeated in the county final. There was also a memorable evening some years after that when the Junior hurlers had difficulty fielding a team and Tom along with his two brothers Tony and Terry were joined by their father Mick and played Newtown in Greystones.

Tom was very proud of Bray Emmets and when he finished playing, worked on maintaining the grounds and opening the building in the more recent past.

He also played a valued role in the club Golf Classic combining his talent at golf with supporting the club. When he became unwell, he continued to come up to the club to watch matches and bring his grandchildren. He took great pride in showing family members the newly refurbished clubhouse at the All-Ireland Kick Fada in September last.

When he was too ill to travel to matches, Tom followed the activities in the club closely and enjoyed in particular the victories of our Junior huriing and football team this year. He sent good wishes via Facebook to the Minor hurlers when they played Glenealy in the county final in November and was thrilled to hold the Minor Cup in the Hospice the Thursday night before he died when club joint Presidents Jackie Napier and Tom Walsh visited him.

Tom will be remembered by his big smile and will be sadly missed by all members of Bray Emmets including frie people he played, members of the management committee, adult players and most of all our juvenile members who respected him greatly and enjoyed the chat and encouragement he gave them.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Tom's wife Roisin, his son Paul and daughters Bronagh and Ciara, his brothers Terry and Tony, sister Eileen and his grandchildren that he adored.
