Barnes, Jimmy

The Late Jimmy Barnes

Wicklow lost one of its great workers with the death of Jimmy Barnes of Tinahely last week. Jimmy played hurling and football with his native Shillelagh but after known as a promoter of the game at all levels.

He was ever present at matches in Aughrim and always available to do whatever jobs required doing. He was highly respected as a goal umpire and was in demand by all the leading referees of recent years. His funeral took place on Friday to St Kevin's Church, Killaveney and was attended by a very large number of Gaels from the clubs of South Wicklow and North Wexford.
Our sympathy to his wife Dolores, son Brendan, daughter Sandra and extended family.
