Flynn, Frank

August 13, 2008
The death occurred last week of Frank Flynn, a former Donard footballer and handballer who lived for many years in Castledermot. Frank missed out on the glory days of Donard football but was one of new generation to lead a revival in the late 60's. He was captain of the team that won the junior football championship in 1972 and also played in the intermediate final in 74. When he met his wife Mary he moved to Castledermot and concentrated mainly on his handball skills. He joined the Moone Handball Club and went on to win two All-Ireland Medals. A beautiful singing voice also kept Frank constantly in the public eye and he was a leading member of the Castledermot Church Choir right up to his final illness. Although he lived outside the county for years Frank remained loyal supporter of Wicklow football and was in Croke Park to cheer on Mick's men in their win over Kildare this year. The Moone Handball Club, The Kildare Handball board and the Donard/Glen club joined forces in Castledermot and marched with the cortege to Coltstown Cemetery. To his wife Mary, his sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and extended family we extend out sympathy
