Wicklow chairman Martin Fitzgerald has returned unopposed to the position following the county convention.

Fitzgerald was set to face opposition from Rathnew’s Bobby Dignam, but he withdrew from the race in the lead up to the convention.

There was no contest for any of the key positions as the position of treasurer was not contested either following Pat Doyle’s decision not to run against Alan Smullen.

However, the position of Irish Language Officer was left vacant after Shane Byrne who held the role, decided to step down and Ann Marie Clarke, who was set to run against him, opted out of the race.
