Rathnew club notes

January 14, 2019

"Rathnew Gaa 1885" is the clubs one and only official Facebook page. Any other page with our name has nothing to do with our club and is not run by anyone in our club.

We are hoping to enter a ladies football team for 2019. If you are interested keep an eye on our Facebook page or contact Katrina Murphy (087 883 7577)

There was no winner of our lotto jackpot on the 7th January, Numbers 1, 5, 8, 24. Four matched 3,

Jonathan & Leona o'Connor c/o Sean o'Connor. Elaine Franey c/o Rocky's.

Myles Manning c/o Arches. Clifford Dowling c/o Darren Newsome.

At the time of writing the jackpot stands at €9,000

You can get tickets from Doyle's, The Arches, The village inn, Rocky's, Healy's mini mart, Malones, Dowlings butchers or any committee member.

The club is currently replacing and upgrading the equipment in the gym. The membership for the gym is the cheapest around so if your interested contact Bobby (085 111 5514). Also any existing member please be aware that the code for the gym cannot be passed around and must stop immediately.

The club sends its condolences to the Kearney family on the passing of club president Joe Kearney.

Joe was a great Gaa man who was well known and respected throughout the county. A duel player in his day Joe was centre half forward on the last Rathnew team to win a senior hurling championship in 1950 and was midfield on the first Wicklow team to win a Leinster championship beating Westmeath in the Leinster junior hurling championship final in 1954. He was unlucky not to win a senior football championship with Rathnew losing finals in 1953 and 1959. Joe was also a well respected referee in the 50's and 60's while having to cycle his bike to the games. Joe will be a big loss to the village. May he rest in peace.
