Hurling shoot-outs on the way (well, maybe)

Next year's national hurling league quarter-finals and semi-finals could be decided by dramatic shoot-outs.

Central Council has decided to introduce the shoot-outs to get rid of replays in the competition (bar the final) and therefore eliminate the spectre of fixtures congestion before the championship starts.

However, it seems unlikely that the shoot-outs will materialise as they will only be used if the two teams are level after 70 minutes, still level after an initial 20 minutes of extra time and still deadlocked after a further ten minutes of additional time.

In the unlikely event of a shoot-out actually being required, it would comprise a free-taking competition of some sort, but no details have been confirmed as to what this would entail.
