Cork have appointed John Meyler as their new U21 hurling coach for the next two seasons.

Meyler was a part of the Cork panel in 1986 which won the All-Ireland senior hurling championship and went on to become a selector with the Rebel County.

He has also managed his native Wexford in the past, as well as Carlow and Kerry's senior hurlers, and has enjoyed some success at club level with St Finbarr's.

As a player, Meyler lined out with Our Lady's Island up until 1979 and prior to that would have featured in teams at Gormanstown College from 1969-1974 and UCC from 1974-1979. His career with Wexford hurling started in 1973 right up until 1982 and at various times he would have played at minor, under-21 and senior in both hurling and football.

One of his great moments was to captain St. Finbarr's to the All-Ireland Club football championship title in 1987, having one year earlier won an All-Ireland senior hurling medal with Cork as a substitute. His senior career with Cork spanned the period 1983 to 1987.
