Just a week after the conclusion of the NFL, the Wexford senior football championship is surely the first of its kind to begin.

Over the coming weeks, the club championship scene will get up and running, but Wexford look to have got in ahead of the majority (if not all) counties around the country.

Many counties have opted to give their county players two weeks with their clubs before the start of their respective championships, but not in Wexford.

Having defeated Carlow in the last round of the NFL last Sunday, the players have been released to their clubs for this weekend's matches.

Defending champions St James who won their first ever title last year kick off their defence against rivals St Anne's at Innovate Wexford Park on Sunday afternoon.
