Fr Murphy's coach wins 'Run in the Dark' charity race in London
November 24, 2015FR MURPHY'S Ladies Football coach Erin McDaid won the men's 5k race in the annual Run in the Dark event in Battersea Park, London, last Wednesday.
Nearly 2,000 people took part in aid of the Mark Pollock Trust, which aims to fast-track a cure for paralysis, with the growing event having taken place simultaneously across Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Manchester and London.
After being blinded in 1998, former athlete Mark Pollock - who hails from Holywood in Co Down - was then paralysed in a fall in 2010 and subsequently set up his charity to help himself and others recover from spinal injuries.
Among the thousands in the London leg of the event were eight other representatives of Fr Murphys Ladies Football and Camogie Club, pictured above, who did their club proud on the night.
As well as Mr McDaid's winning time of 00:16:09, Norma Hurley and Aisling Curley both posted times of under 30 minutes in the 5k race on November 11.
In the 10k race, Kirby Gilgunn, Leanne Drumm, Louise McCarthy, Liz Breen, Elaine Lyons and Ann Marie Herward all registered times of under 60 minutes.
It was an enjoyable night for the club, who wholeheartedly support the cause, with the Mark Pollock Trust currently aiding young Cork GAA hurling and football star Jamie Wall, who was paralysed after an infection two years ago.
