Paud O'Dwyer took charge of yesterday's All-Ireland MHC final, despite the sad passing of his mother on Saturday night.

Bridget O'Dwyer, late of Newbawn, Co. Wexford, died at Knockeen Nursing Home on the eve of one of her son's biggest refereeing assignments. Paud, who referees under the Carlow banner, did a fine job in the circumstances as Galway won out on a 4-13 to 1-16 scoreline.

Bridget's funeral will take place tomorrow in Cushinstown at 12 noon, followed by burial in St Stephen's Cemetery, New Ross immediately afterwards.
