Murphy blasts players

Former Wexford senior hurling manager Seamus Murphy

Wexford manager Seamus Murphy is furious that some of the players eligible for selection will not line out for his side in this evening's (Wednesday) Leinster IHC final against Galway.

The sides meet at O'Moore Park and Murphy stated to the Wexford People that at least six players turned down the opportunity to line out for their county.

"Some players don't have any desire to put on an inter-county jersey. It's a pity they don't have that desire to wear the purple and gold jersey," said Murphy.

He added: "When I was senior manager, I also had the intermediate set up, and we enjoyed success. This is ideal for senior management, as they are able to include the extended senior squad in preparations, while also being in a position to call on under-21 players on the fringe of the senior squad.

"That's the way it should go. It would be far more beneficial for hurling as there is no need for so many managers. It would also be better for the players."
