Derry produced the goods before the break to see off Wexford by 1-16 to 0-10 at Owenbeg.

The game was effectively decided late in the first half when Brian McIver's charges hit 1-4 without reply to take a 1-8 to 0-4 lead into the interval.

Wexford were expected to provide stern opposition following their impressive victory over Derry's Ulster SFC conquerors Down, but apart from the opening 25 minutes, they never really threatened.

Eoin Bradley, Enda Lynn and Cailean O'Boyle were all on target early on for the hosts, while captain Mark Lynch slotted three frees. Wexford stayed in touch with scores from Ciaran Lyng, Ben Brosnan and Adrian Flynn before the game's only goal arrived. Wexford defender Brian Malone turned the ball into his own net after Cailean O'Boyle's fisted effort had rebounded from the crossbar.

Benny Heron (45) and Danny Heavron quickly added points to leave the Oak Leafers seven clear at half-time.

The visitors had wind advantage in the second period, but Derry remained in the driving seat as scores from Lynch, Heron, O'Boyle, Liam McGoldrick and Conor McAtamney extended their advantage to nine points.

Lyng, Brosnan and Eoghan Nolan replied for David Power's men, but the result was never in doubt as the hosts secured their place in the bowl for the Round 3B draw on Monday morning.
