Kilmore GAA club News

April 23, 2015

Well done to our U16 footballers who got their Championship off to a flying start with a good 5 - 9 to 3 - 5 win against Geraldine O'Hanrahans in Kilmore last Monday night. We have amalgamated with Rosslare this year (playing as Kilross Gaels) and considering that it was our first competitive match it was a very good team performance with some excellent defending, support play and score-taking on display. Scorers were Liam O'Connor (Rosslare) 2-3, Rees Broaders (Rosslare) 1-0, Dylan Jones (Kilmore) 1-0, Diarmuid Cooney (Kilmore) 1-6.

Our U14 Hurlers got the season off to a flying start with a good win over Fethard on Tuesday night last. Playing with a strong wind in the first half they built up a good lead which they never really looked like relinquishing. They held out for a convincing win in the end. On Thursday night the attention turned to football where they had a tough away fixture against Cloughbawn. Unfortunately our lads were overpowered by a very strong Cloughbawn team.

U12 footballers also had their first outing of the season last week in a challenge game against St Marys Maudlintown. in what was a good game of football our boys held out for the win on a scoreline of 4-04 to 0-07.

U10's have their first games of the season on Friday this week against Rosslare. Parents will be notified by text of the exact details.

Please check Facebook and Twitter for updates and reports from all our games as they happen.
Preparations are in full swing for Féile which takes place in Wexford on the last weekend in June. WE were very Excited to learn on Monday that our boys will be hosting San Fransisco and our girls will be hosting Dunsaughlin from Co Meath. A joint committee has been formed with the ladies GAA club and a number of fundraisers are planned over the coming weeks. First up is a breakfast morning in Kilmore parish hall on Sunday May 3rd.

It was a disappointing weekend for our adult football teams. Our Junior B's lost out to St Josephs on Friday night. We started slowly despite having the wind in the first half. Against the wind in the second half we really came back into the game but missed a couple of opportunities and finished 3 points adrift. Our Intermediate footballers lost out to Rosslare in the second round of the intermediate championship on Saturday. Similar to the Junior B's we were slow to start and despite a rally in the second half could not get back in front. Our attention now turns to hurling have the ACHL on Saturday next followed by our first game in the Junior A hurling Championship on May 3rd against St Martins.

Finishing touches are now being put in place on out clubhouse and surrounds in anticipation of the official opening on May 17th. The place is looking great both inside and out reflecting the huge amount of work that has been put in over the recent months. The new surface on the car park is a welcome upgrade. Can patrons please note and observe the 4 reserved disabled car parking spaces.

As mentioned above the official opening of our new facility has been fixed for Sunday evening May 17th. The opening will be performed by President of the GAA MR Aogán Ó Fearghail. The occasion will be marked by a Senior Hurling challenge game between Wexford and Waterford whish promises to be a competitive encounter only 3 weeks before each of these sides open their respective championship campaigns on 7th June. Definitely a date for the diary.
