Conor Byrne, a member of the Wexford under 15 Development Squad, was tragically killed in a road accident on Wednesday evening.
The 14-year-old died after the car his mother Angela was driving was in collision with a tractor and trailer about half-a-mile from their home on the Oulart to Blackwater road.
Paramedics attending the scene of the accident tried to resuscitate the teenager, but he was later pronounced dead at Wexford General Hospital. Neither Mrs Byrne nor the driver of the tractor was seriously injured.
Chairperson of Oulart-The Ballagh Mary Doyle said the whole community is "absolutely devastated" at the loss of Conor, who was a member of the Wexford hurling development squad and is a relative of camogie stars Una and Mary Lacey, who also play with the club. His family are heavily involved in GAA affairs.
It was the second road tragedy to affect Conor's family in recent years. In Christmas week, 2006, his grandmother Eileen Lacey was killed on her way to pick up Conor from school and less than half a mile from where the recent collision took place.
A student at Enniscorthy CBS, Conor's funeral will arrive at St Patrick's Church, Oulart on Sunday for 12 noon Requiem Mass, followed by burial afterwards in Oulart Cemetery.
May he rest in peace.
