Laois 4-18
Wexford 1-19
Laois have set up a Walsh Cup semi-final meeting with Dublin after a PJ Scully hat-trick of goals helped them to an impressive victory over Wexford in Abbeyleix.
Building on their comfortable first round win over UCD, Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett's charges led by 2-10 to 1-10 at half-time thanks to goals from Scully and Stephen 'Picky' Maher after Kevin Foley's early major had given the visitors a 1-3 to 0-5 lead.
The Slaneysiders levelled the scoring at 1-15 to 2-12 in the third quarter, but Scully's second green flag put the hosts in the driving seat again. Johnny Purcell and Maher tagged on points before Scully made it 4-16 to 1-16 to complete his hat-trick.
Laois' performance bodes well for their Allianz League Division 1B campaign which starts with a local derby against Offaly in three weeks' time.
