Good Counsel, New Ross 1-11

Marist College, Athone 2-5

Good Counsel recovered from the concession of two first half goals to register a surprise victory over Marist College in today's Leinster Post Primary Schools SF 'A' quarter-final at Dr Cullen Park.

Midfielder and Kilkenny minor hurler Darragh Joyce's 44th minute goal was all important as the Wexford school progressed to a semi-final meeting with St. Mel's College. It put them 1-10 to 2-2 in front and they held on for a deserved victory.

Last year's beaten finalists Marist had led by 2-2 to 0-6 at the break thanks to goals from Luke Carty and Aaron Roarke.

But they were left to rue seven first half wides as Good Counsel dominated the second period. Nine-point winners over St. Pat's of Navan in the previous round, Marist could only manage a late brace of points from sub Cathal Mannion as the Wexford school progressed.
