Wexford's David Murphy and Brian Malone tackle Graham Reilly of Meath. INPHO

Former Wexford footballer David Murphy is favourite to take over as manager of the county's senior football side.

The Wexford County Board have been busy interviewing perspective candidates for the role and it is believed that Murphy is leading the chase at the moment.

The St Mary's clubman is still playing club football but is manager of the St Joseph's side who he has guided to the IFC semi final.

Other candidates in the running for the role are former Kildare footballer Paul McLoughlin who is based in Wexford and has managed the Model County's minor footballers in recent years as well as David Power who guided Tipperary to All-Ireland MFC success three years ago.
