Wexford U-21 manager JJ Doyle wasn't getting carried away following his side's two-point semi-final victory over Galway.

Speaking to TG4 after the final whistle, the Model County boss was keen to stress that there was no silverware handed out in Semple Stadium today.

"It's only a semi-final. Our goal is to win the All-Ireland. I'm not down playing getting to the final, it's great to be in the final but today was another step along the road.

"I know the next day will be very tough against that Clare team but, look, we're in the final now and we have a chance. We'll give it a go."

Doyle was particularly pleased with his defensive unit's display against the Tribesmen.

"I know Jack (Guiney) got man-of-the-match and he had a phenomenal game in fairness to him but from a management's point of view the backs just did a phenomenal job, the full-back line, the half-back line.

"We're in an All-Ireland final now, we have three weeks to look forward to it. I'll be honest with you, it's the complete opposite of this time last year!" he added in reference to last year's shock defeat by Antrim.

Man-of-the-match Jack Guiney who was on target with 1-8 for the winners said: ""We're just delighted to get over the line.

"It was tit-for-tat there for a while, Galway looked as though they were going to push on and win it but, in fairness, our lads at the back started getting out in front for the ball and Galway really had no answer there in the end."
