Aidan O'Brien has vacated his post as Wexford senior football manager for personal reasons.

The Adamstown clubman was at the helm for two years, having succeeded Jason Ryan in October 2012. In both his seasons in charge, O'Brien brought the Slaneysiders to the last four in Leinster.

This year's championship saw the Model County get the better of Longford before losing to defending and would-be provincial champions Dublin. In the Qualifiers, Laois eliminated O'Brien's charges for the second consecutive season.

In the league, meanwhile, Wexford were relegated to Division Three last year and finished mid-table in Division Three this year.

Wexford County Board issued a statement last night, confirming "Aidan O Brien has confirmed to the County Chairman that for personal reasons he will not be continuing as Senior Football Team Manger.

"He did tremendous work during his two years at the helm and on behalf of Coiste Chondae.

"We would like to thank him most sincerely for all his efforts.

"The football monitoring committee will now start the process of finding a successor."
