Wexford GAA are to proceed with the development of a Centre of Excellence at Ferns, despite missing out on funding from the Sports Capital Programme.

The Model County were told that its application for funding was invalid, much to the shock of the county board and an internal investigation into how that happened was launched.

However, even though they lost out on the region of €400,000, the county board plan to proceed with the next phase of the development.

This will entail constructing dressingrooms and installing a road into the facility, which is scheduled to be ready by early next year so the various county teams can prepare for their respective league campaigns.

Further works on the centre of excellence will then be spread out over a period of time to ease the financial burden on the county board.
