Wexford miss out on funding

July 09, 2014

Wexford GAA have failed to receive funding.
Wexford GAA failed to receive funding from the Sport Capital Programme as their application was deemed invalid.

County board chairman Diarmuid Devereux admitted to the Wexford People that he was 'shocked' by the decision and stressed that an internal investigation would be launched immediately.

The Model County had hoped to receive the funding in order to help develop their €3m Centre of Excellence at Ferns, and although clubs in the county received grants, the County Board did not.

"I am shocked to hear that's the reason as to why we got no funding. I will be pursuing this now at county management level," stressed Devereux.

"While we may have failed I would like to thank the Government for the manner in which they recognised GAA clubs in the county and their generous support for them."
