Wexford hurler Conor McDonald is running the Dublin Marathon on Sunday for charity.

The big-hearted full forward is raising funds for two worthy causes - Aoibheann's Pink Tie and St Aidan's Day Care in his hometown of Gorey. He set up a GoFundMe page last weekend and has so far raised over €1,500 of a goal of €2,000.

Conor's GoFundMe read: "Sport is one of the main things in my life and I am a member of the current Wexford senior hurling panel. As my GAA season has ended just a few weeks ago, I contemplated jumping into different sports to try keep the body going while trying new stuff. Then came the marathon!!

"A few short weeks ago I was offered a challenge to run a marathon with very little training. The one thing I knew would spur me on and make me accomplish this is to do it for charity. Charities that also mean a lot to me.

"The first charity, Aoibheann's pink tie was introduced to me by an incredible man, Colin 'Jango' Fleming, who despite fighting for his life at the time, managed to keep the bright side out and raised an incredible sum of money for this particular charity. My aim since his passing is to continue his hopes and do the same for this amazing charity.

"The second charity I have chose is St.Aidans day care in Gorey. This local establishment does an enormous work around the area and in their time of need and at a time where they are seeking support I would love to play my part in raising funds to a place that does an incredible amount of unnoticed work for so many. If you have a few bob to spare I would be extremely grateful if you donate to both these charities and I will do my utmost come race day to repay and represent your donation. Thanks for your time."
