Tradition matters to Galvin

Paul Galvin is hoping to tap into Wexford's rich football tradition.

Wexford won five All-Ireland football titles in the early part of the last century, but the big ball game has lived in the shadows of hurling since the mid-1950s when the Model County became a hurling force.

New manager Galvin was made aware of Wexford's proud football tradition by selector and fellow Kerry man Tadhg O'Donoghue, and is planning on using it as motivation in the coming season.

"When I spoke to Tadhg in the summer about Wexford, he was very positive about Wexford and felt it was a good place to be, a good place to start coaching," the former Kerry star said in an interview with South East Radio.

"He spoke of the tradition of winning too. It's something Wexford players have to think about and be aware of, the fact that Wexford have a past of winning a little bit.

"Tadhg also has a lot of experience in business and is a good people person. He'll be good around the players and he also has a very sharp football intellect."
