Wexford SHC: Last gasp Foley goal sends Rapps into last four

September 29, 2019

Wexford's Kevin Foley celebrates scoring a point against Kilkenny

There was a dramatic finish to this quarter-final clash in Innovate Wexford Park yesterday as Rapparees snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Rathnure.

Injury time goals from substitute Eamonn Furlong and Wexford star Kevin Foley (free) saw Rapps advance to the penultimate stage courtesy of a 2-14 to 1-16 success.

Defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for Rathnure who were chasing a first semi-final appearance since 2012.

Ciaran O’Connor’s 45th minute goal had placed them in pole position but they were left cursing their luck after Foley finished to their net in the seventh minute of added-time.

Meanwhile, the clash of Shelmaliers and St Anne’s was postponed due to a bereavement in the Shelmaliers club.
