There were wins for the Two Mile House (Kildare), St Mochtas (Louth), Horeswood (Wexford) and Shamrocks (Offaly) in this afternoon’s Leinster club intermediate football championship first round clashes.

In Hawkfield, 13-man Two Mile House came through battle with Shandonagh of Westmeath by 2-7 to 1-9 to move into the provincial quarter-finals.

First-half goals from Caomhan Doolan and Shane D'Arcy proved crucial for the Kildare champions as they were made to hang on until the very end following late red cards for goalkeeper Didier Cordonnier and midfielder Shane D’Arcy. The latter’s straight red card means he’ll miss his side’s last eight clash against the Dublin representatives.

Louth champions St Mochtas sprung a surprise 1-10 to 0-11 victory over Meath counterparts Longwood in Ardee, where extra time was required.

Ryan Moore's injury-time point for the Royal County champions made it a draw (0-10 to 1-7) at full-time after the home side had been in front for the majority through Philly Englishby’s first-half goal.

Three frees from Decky Byrne, including an exceptional sideline, were what made the difference for St Mochtas in the added periods.

In Tullamore, Shamrocks scored a 1-15 to 2-7 win over Tinahely of Wicklow after having played with 14 men from the fifth minute onwards following the dismissal of Luke Molloy.

Altogether, Offaly marksman Nigel Dunne (0-8) and Alan Heffernan combined for 1-14 of the winners’ tally with the latter netting the home side’s goal.

Wexford champions Horeswood had it all their own way against Mullinavat (Kilkenny) by recording a 3-15 to 1-5 win at New Ross.

The evergreen PJ Banville (2) and Declan Larkin supplied the goals that see the Model County men take on Longford champions Rathcline in two weeks’ time.
