Double firsts in Wexford

In an unique twist to this year’s Wexford senior hurling and football championship finals, both county champions were first time winners.

Not many counties can boast having two first time winners in the same year, but Wexford can do just that this year.

At a time when many counties are being dominated by one team or another, it is refreshing to see new champions being crowned.

And Wexford did it on the double as Shelmaliers cruised to a first ever senior football championship title when comfortably defeating Kilanerin in last Saturday’s replay.

Twenty four hours later and there was a new name on the senior hurling championship roll of honour as Gorey outfit Naomh Eanna produced an excellent display to dethrone defending champions St Martin’s.
