Chin says Wexford didn't train in Portugal

Lee Chin has denied rumours that Wexford travelled to Portugal last month for a warm-weather training camp.

GAA rules preclude full-time training camps unless they take place in the 10-day period before a county's first provincial championship game. The penalty for breaking the rule is forfeiture of the county's first home game in next year's Allianz League.

"We decided to go off together and have a bit of fun in each other's company because we hadn't been around each other the last couple of weeks," Chin told the Irish Daily Mirror at a Sure promotional event yesterday.

"Most of us said, 'Let's do it'. A couple of guys couldn't commit to coming so we said, 'Yeah, we'll go ahead and do it ourselves', whatever amount of lads that wanted to do it."

Asked if Wexford trained, Chin replied: "No we didn't. We went out and we decided that we just wanted to relax in each other's company and that's what we went out and did.

"We did not train once out there. We couldn't help but laugh at [what was reported]."
