Forward line lacking creativity That is no thing to say about any player "shouldbestarting". Maybe you should be called, "shouldnotbestarting". Gillmore ruptured his knee ligument cartilages and suffered a collar bone break after a bad cycling accident a few years ago (with the boyos). He had surgery done on it as far as i know and it has meant he is incapable of using his right foot properly. He has had the spirit and determination to master the skill of his left foot in his anguish and is an inspiration to us all ,"Give assistance not advice in a crisis". I think he deserves a chance to shine on the big day. here here Patch_eyes88 , 18/03/2010 at 16:07
Forward line lacking creativity Gilmore is a good young lad alrite but is missing a right foot, i hope he finds it some day. shouldbestartin , 18/03/2010 at 15:42
Forward line lacking creativity good point patch_eyes but riddle me this, how can young gilmore survive with no right foot? he actually only has 1 leg, seriously like he has to hop around the place! shouldbestartin , 18/03/2010 at 15:31
Forward line lacking creativity The results in the league have clearly shown that the forward line needs more zip and creativity to have a chance to challenge in the championship..Its not too late to start scouting new young talent and a few young lads have shown for the clubs they are capable to surprise the best of defensive marksmen. Young Gillmore from Lomans has a tasty left foot on him, i think its Adrian, and should players like he not get the chance to shine and flair on the big day?? as they say "Never mind whether the horse is blind or not, just load up the wagon" Patch_eyes88 , 18/03/2010 at 15:10
Under 21s On another note is a pain in the rear that it's not going to be neutral venue, Navan or Tullamore would have been ideal. Chops , 18/03/2010 at 12:26
Under 21s Excellent game, felt Heslin didn't have the same impact against Laois as he did against Meath, Ronan Doyle played out of his skin at corner back, a big turn around on his performance against Meath, Corroon was very good in the middle Coffey and Durkin up front had great pace beating their men, but the thing thats impressing me most about this current crop is that when a man has the ball he has the vision to find another player when he's under pressure in possession, the running of the ball to recieve passes is very good. Hackett is very lucky he has such a good crop of players hopefully we can go all the way in Leinster and after that who knows?!! And hopefully a good few of these players can mature to senior. Under 21s thats a nice concise summary "rockingchair". I agree, I thought Corroon had an excellent game. when 3 pts down, 2nd half, he kick started the home run with two magnificent catches. it seemed to lift Heslin into doing similar some minutes later. a harder fought game than against Meath. I was hugely impressed with the searing runs by Sharry and Corroon in the first half. Coffee was almost faultless - no wonder they tried to deck him later. how does John Egan keep hold of the ball despite being put through what seemed like a series thrashing mills at one stage. all in all I thought westmeath put in a heroic effort to keep within a point by half time against what was a ferocious wind. Laois new they were in a game on 20 minutes when after a series of major offensives they were still 4-3 down with the wind. (Kingston soon lost that swagger! - started to look like a guy running for a bus!) in fairness to Laois they put the pressure on in the 3rd quarter even though the maroons gifted 1 or 2 easy frees. midway through the second half I was getten that sinking feeling for a little bit (even though I knew the maroons were good). what frustrated me most was the amount ball we almost caught with 2 hands only to drop in to the hands of a waiting Laois sweeper. once we coped that the game was up for Laois. (think Kingston was moved full forward for resuscitation? thank God for us!) delighted to see Lynam eventually put into the left corner forward birth (where he belongs!) - even then he helped secure one or 2 very important points. what a crucial final point by Sharry to finish em off but boy was it a long wait to go 3 ahead. Superb performance all round against a quality side. great discipline and most importantly GREAT GREAT team work. the dubs will be tough in Parnell Park - discipline will be MUCH more important up there! but de biz WILL DO IT !?!?! razor , 18/03/2010 at 10:23
Under 21s I have to say I was very unimpressed with Sharry's and Egan's "direct running". They starved the full forward line of ball, Coffey had the beating of his man every time but was only given the ball as a last resort in the 2nd half. Also I couldn't understand why Lynam was left for so long out on the wing when the game was obviously passing him by. He should be started and left in the corner. Diamond Dave , 18/03/2010 at 10:16
Is it time for Brendan Hackett to go? well said DukeSpecial. Meridian , 17/03/2010 at 21:12
Under 21s Good summary of the match. After Laois hitting the metalwork 3 times within minutes early on I did expect them to get in for a goal at some stage.Didn't see the sending off - neither did the ref but the linesman must have ! Didn't seem to be much dispute from the Laois lads. Heslin was involved in the best and the worst for me - kicking huge point from a free 60m out and then trying a free with the right foot from the right sideline close to 20m line.Kingston is some size of a man but agree Corroon did very well and then Heslin came into it. Middle 8 need to work on the breaking ball ! Playing Martin as a sweeper in front of Cahillane did the trick and this continued when Laois lost a man. I was impressed with the direct running of Sharry and Egan and Durkin picked up a nice score or 2 before going off injured.Maguire and Doyle did well also in the full back line. I see the Leinster GAA website is saying the final is a home game for Dublin on April 4th. Parnell Park surely ? BigSur , 17/03/2010 at 20:52
Under 21s Dublin v Westmeath, Easter Sunday, Parnell Park. rockingchair , 17/03/2010 at 20:07
Under 21s According to the Leinster GAA Website. The draw for the Cadbury Leinster G.A.A. U-21 F.C. 2010 has Dublin down to play Westmeath, with Dublin having home advantage. However, I agree...It has to be a neutral venue...Also - here is the Westmeath team today....1. Darren Quinn (Tyrellspas)2. Ben Moran (Caulry)3. Kevin Maguire (Caulry) 4. Ronan Doyle (Coralstown/Kinnegad)5. Ger Egan (Tyrellspass)6. Kieran Martin (Maryland)7. James Dolan (Garrycastle)8. Denis Corroon (Mullingar Shamrocks)9. John Heslin (St. Lomans)10. Paul Sharry (St. Lomans)11. John Egan (Athlone)12. Conor Lynam (Lomans)13. Ian Coffey (Tubberclaire)14. Callum McCormack (Maryland)15. James Durkan (Ballinagore) eeidbon , 17/03/2010 at 20:02
Under 21s Great team performance today. Corroon was outstanding for the hour, alright his man got a couple of points, but when things were'nt going right for Heslin in the first half he stepped up to the mark. Heslin kept the head up, and when the game was in the balance, he came into it big time. Backs played well, bringing Mescall in was a good decision at that time. Forwards kept plugging away, Lynam had a quiet enough day, but Coffey, Durkin, and Sharry got some great scores.Dubs up next, won 14 to 13 after extra time. Anyone know when? Some people in the park saying it was a home match for us, surely a final would be at a neutral venue. rockingchair , 17/03/2010 at 19:43
Westmeath hurling squad revolt Ur dead right "worried"... Martin is getting it hard to get pitches to train on with decent lights so what can the chap do? Players need to cop on and realise that its an honour to play with ur county, many of us would give our right arm to play at that level.. 2BFRANK , 17/03/2010 at 17:38
Is it time for Brendan Hackett to go? Most of those guys have already been tried and have failed-the like of the shamrocks boys etc-sure everyone knows how weak shamrocks' forward line is so they are hardly options. Connellan might be worth a try along with a few of the lads from the 21's-add greville, ennis and flan to that forward line and it'll be decent-not world beaters but still good enough to keep our head above water. Needs to stop playing defenders like warburton, healy and lads who can't score like smyth and harte in the forwards. One work horse should be enough and they should at least be able to kick a point.Defence is a worry with no man marker-i think boyle should be tried out in the half back line as he's a good footballer for there. we've had some big scores put up against us in the games so far-tierney, mcdonnel and bray all had excellent games and usually we could just put JK on the danger man but that option is gone. Shamrocks have some good defenders worth a look i think and maybe one or 2 of the downs or athlone lads too. elmatador , 17/03/2010 at 12:03
