Westmeath - County Minor Footballers 2017

Don't know why people are in shock. What we should be saying is why has last year's management walked away after just one year. We're they asked to leave or did they leave themselves. Because by all accounts it was one of the best set ups ever at minor level. Our club had 3 players on it and all players came back in better condition better more mature footballers and all very positive about the set up which is what you look for in a minor county player. We have 1 player on the panel this year and that player has gone backways. Now why have we asked Leahy and Tom STewart and all last year's management to step down or did they step down themselves. We can't afford to loose quality coaches at underage level. Someone give me answer please

I am pritty Sure Leahy walked away becasue he did not get the support for the underage structure. He did a interview in the paper after last year minor saying that he was stepping down to help out at a younger age and said that the underage needed a plan and a director of coaching in order to move forward.
Now i am not certain why he walked away but adding 2 and 2 the CB did not do anything to change the underage structure and he walked away because he seen no progression. Thats Jack Cooney in Rhode and Leahy in Tullamore probably argueable our 2 best coaches gone to offaly what does that say about where we are at.
Like your above statement we had 2 on the panel last year with the minors and i actually seen a number of the sessions they did and the set up looked inter county senior status but to be fare i havent seen anything this year as we have nobody on the panel and they could be just as good sessions so i wont say a word about this years set up.
The point i was making is rightly Leahy said we need to put a plan in place and get better coaching at underage and it hasnt happened and is not going to happen so each year we are going to blame the minor manager as the standard gets worse and worse simply becasue we are not giving our young talent the best chances and the best coaching.
Action needed not all this talk.

valley all that gets discussed at these meetings is whats on the top tables own agenda. If anyone asks questions outside of this they are immediately put in their place.

Can't believe what I am reading here, the minor manager this year is a good man very committed to his football and is certainly no worse than leahy or cooney, what can a man do if the talent is simply not there.Leahy won a ladies title with a team that never should have been intermediate and an
intermediate mens title with a team that was never an intermediate team,as for cooney I have already stated an excellent fitness man but has yet to impress as a manager.I am not downing these two men but they are not as good as some make out they are .I believe Leahy walked before he was pushed...more to it than meets the eye

Shouldn't the aim be to get a good football coach and good S&C together

I do agree that there is no plan for anything in the county football or hurling
Extra funding will never be available from Leinster GAA or Croke Park unless there is a county wide plan in place from Under 8 up to minor

Nobody likes to mention the elephant in the room these guys are not wandering down to Offaly because they love Offaly club football or else we would be all down watching it. They are getting more money for doing it than they can get for doing the same thing in Westmeath. Or maybe I am wrong again.

Not more money for doing the same thing in Westmeath, but more money than doing the same thing for Westmeath. Good few clubs in Westmeath able to throw money around that the county board don't have. I very much doubt Tom Cribbin is getting his expenses covered to the same level as a few club managers. In the more traditionally strong counties there is massive money thrown at the county teams from outside sources. That doesn't exist in most counties, Westmeath included.
